Diogenes was a Roman Philosopher, who was apart of the "Cynics" movement. Cynics believed that virtue was the only important thing, and that life should be free of materialism. He lived by this way of thinking by getting rid of all of his possessions. He lived in a barrel and at night he would walk around Rome with a lantern in his hand. When asked what he was doing, he always responded "I'm looking for an honest man".
The most famous story involving Diogenes was when Alexander the Great came to visit him. Alexander asked him "Diogenes, what can I get you?". Knowing that Alexander was trying to test his dedication to his practice, Diogenes would always respond, "you can get out of my sunlight". This was a badass reply because it implied that Alexander thought of himself as the sun (which he did), and he had the balls to tell the most powerful person in the area to fuck off.
